KDSL Global Fellows

KDSL Global, based in the United Arab Emirates and in the United States, is pleased to announce our two new fellows.  The fellowship will run from September 2017-June 2018 with a focus on writing, leadership and launching a new education idea.

Janet Larsen Roberts is currently working as a Senior Education Consultant and ESL Teacher for the Knowledge Group at Abu Dhabi University, UAE. Janet has taught English for 30 years to middle school, high school, and university students in the U.S. and the UAE. She has trained teachers in cooperative learning, character education, student-centered learning, inter-curricular writing strategies, and portfolio assessment. In the U.S., she led her school’s Interdisciplinary Curriculum, Character Development and Random Acts of Kindness teams. Janet has a Bachelor of Science from Utah State University (USA) in English, a Minor in Communication and Theatre, and a specialty in Secondary Education.  She is a Certified Kagan Trainer and has served thousands of students and teachers in the US, Jordan, and the UAE.

Janet is a reformed teacher-talk junkie and confesses that both CELTA and Kagan training courses sparked her transformation. As a result, she is passionate about helping teachers restructure classroom interactions so that they talk less and students talk more. She also advises businesses and school leaders about how to improve their meetings with decision-making strategies, relationship-building strategies, and strategies which increase the engagement of employees. As a volunteer, she is a board member for a literacy center for Syrian refugee girls in southern Turkey and serves on an international interfaith committee working for peace and reconciliation through women’s empowerment.

Hiba Ibrahim graduated with a BA degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Jordan in 2009. She started her educational career as a curriculum designer and instructor of Arabic as a foreign language in different institutions in Jordan and the US. She was a Fulbright grantee to teach as a full time instructor at Baldwin Wallace University in 2013. Currently, Hiba is a postgraduate student at UCL doing research on intercultural foreign language education. She is expected to finish her degree by October.

In her free time, you find Hiba blogging on women issues, Islamophobia and education through her blog Thoughts of an Arab Woman. She is also involved in some social work projects online and in Jordan.
